The benefits of listening to and playing music, have been well researched and documented. It can be practically seen in the faces of children when they play their first piece or perform their first concert, or master a tricky section of a piece. The benefits and the sheer joy of making music is what motivates the directors and the tutors of the Kerikeri School of Music who have all had so many wonderful experiences from music throughout their lives, to pass on their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for music.
The philosophy of the Kerikeri School of Music centres around a concept of music making being a communal or group activity Making music is a very natural part of life to and we believe all children are talented to make music. Although there is facility for one-to –one instrument tuition and solo performances, students are encouraged to perform in various ensembles. This, we believe, will give the students a real taste of what making music is about and will accelerate their musical development.
The Kerikeri School of Music offers Individual lessons, Group lessons or Shared lessons. Students may sit Exams and undertake Performance preparation for Royal School of Music and Trinity College.
We offer tuition accross the spectrum of music genres: JAZZ, BLUES, ROCK, CLASSICAL, POP and in a variety of “intruments” VOCAL, PIANO, KEYBOARDS, BRASS, SAXOPHONE, CLARINET, VIOLIN, GUITAR, BASS, BANJO, DRUMS.
